E. Guigal

Guigal has long been synonymous with excellence and renown in the Rhône Valley, and its iconic wines are recognized around the world for their exceptional quality and distinctive character. Founded by Étienne Guigal in 1946, this family-run business has been able to pRéserver a remarkable winemaking heritage and pass it on from generation to generation.

Among Guigal's iconic wines are those of Côte-Rôtie, an appellation that represents the very essence of Domaine. Côte-Rôtie is famous for its steeply terraced vineyards, schist soils and continental climate. The resulting red wines are elegant, powerful and complex. Guigal offers several Côte-Rôtie cuvées, including the famous "La Mouline", "La Turque" and "La Landonne". These wines are refined expressions of Syrah, with seductive aromas of black fruits, spices, violets and licorice, as well as a remarkable tannic structure. They are renowned for their ability to age for many years, developing additional complexity and depth.

Another iconic Guigal wine is Hermitage, a prestigious appellation located on a hill overlooking the town of Tain-l'Hermitage. Hermitage vineyards produce red wines of great distinction, from the Syrah grape variety, as well as elegant white wines, based on Marsanne and Roussanne. Guigal's Hermitage red wines are renowned for their concentration, tannic structure and aromatic complexity. They feature intense aromas of black fruit, spice, licorice and truffle, as well as impressive length on the palate. Guigal's Hermitage white wines are elegant, with notes of white-fleshed fruit, almonds and honey, combined with a lovely freshness and smooth texture.

Among Guigal's other emblematic wines is the cuvée "Château d'Ampuis", which is a blend of several appellations from the northern Rhône valley. This wine is a tribute to the region's winegrowing history and heritage, offering perfect harmony between power and elegance. It reveals aromas of black fruits, spices, violets and black olives, as well as a well-integrated tannic structure and a persistent finish.

Guigal also produces wines from the southern Rhône Valley, such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône. Wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape are rich, concentrated and generous, with impressive aromatic complexity. Guigal's Côtes du Rhône, whether red or white, are accessible, versatile wines that represent a perfect introduction to the world of Rhône Valley wines.

Guigal's iconic wines are true jewels of the Rhône Valley, reflecting the expertise, passion and commitment of this family-run business. Whether wines from Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or other prestigious appellations, every bottle of Guigal offers an exceptional taste experience, with wines of great finesse, remarkable depth and the ability to age gracefully. These wines are a testament to the Rhône Valley's winegrowing heritage and an invitation to discover the excellence of Guigal's terroir and expertise.

Description E. Guigal La Turque 2016.

This is a côte rôtie wine exclusively and a blend of Syrah and Viognier grapes whose vines are planted partly on the côte blonde and partly on the côte brune.

The wine is aged in new barrels for 42 months.

La robe is brilliant ruby red

On the nose and palate, the wine is powerful with spicy notes. A remarkable symphony of greedy red berries between Morello cherry and blackberry with a hint of blackcurrant. The tannins are finely chiselled.

Dining and wine pairings: sumptuous with leg of lamb, coq au vin or Ventoux truffle stew. Perfect on small autumn game with Hamburg muscat grapes. Unforgettable with red fruit tarts.

Bottles should be stored in a dark cellar. It is generally accepted that aging for 30 years is potentially possible. Regular tastings will therefore be necessary to measure its qualitative peak.

Tasting is done at room temperature with decanting the day before, the time to let it breathe to penetrate the olfactory and gustatory richness of this exceptional wine.
