This is a Côte de Province wine from Château d'Esclans located near the Pennafort gorges 25 kms northwest of the ancient Roman city of Fréjus on the Mediterranean coast. The first traces of the Château site date back to Gallo-Roman times, and Château rests on very ancient cellars.
The vineyard extends over 140 hectares of vines planted mainly with grenache, vermentino, cinsault, merlot, mourvèdre, rolle, syrah and tiborene. Some of the vines on the highest slopes are up to 90 years old.
The Cuvée Les Clans is made from Grenache, Cinsault and Vermentino grapes selected during the harvest on the best slopes of Provence, harvested from morning to noon to avoid oxidation. This is a free-run wine and from the best presses.
La robe is Rosée very clear and bright.
On the palate as on the nose: lots of citrus fruit intimately linked to white flower fragrances. Fine touches of red berries such as burlat cherry or blueberry.
Dining and wine pairing: this is a festive wine, especially as an aperitif, to be served at around 8°C with shellfish, Marennes-Oléron or Belon oysters. Will go very well with sea fish grilled a la plancha, such as line-caught sea bass, salmon steaks, cod fillets flavored with ginger and Espelette chili, or red mullet or even a sea urchin from Provence.
