Domaine des Baumard

Rue de l'abbaye in Rochefort on Loire leads you straight to the Baumard family's 18th-century manor house, their refuge that has sheltered successive generations since 1634.

The Baumard vineyard has been selected by maGazine international Wine and Spirits as one of the world's top 100 Domaines.

Among the magnificent wines produced by this Domaine, Premiers Grands Crus, true to its charter has retained only the quarter thatch as it is the only one of all their wines entitled to the Grand Cru appellation.

All the grapes are hand-picked by successive sorting in the vineyard.

This is a sweet wine very close to the structure in the mouth of Sauternes The nose is powerful with hints of quince, pear and acacia honey. The palate is full-bodied and round, with an exquisite hint of fine minerality.

Description Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume 2017.

The Quarts de Chaume appellation is the most famous of Anjou's crus. It benefits from a unique terroir and location. Its wines are of a breed and elegance Rare. The origin of its name dates back to the Middle Ages. In those days, winegrowers were required to pay the Abbesse du Ronceray d'Angers "a quarter of the harvest hanging on the reverse side of the hillside facing south" produced in the Chaume tenement.

Harvested in October by hand, in successive selections, the grapes are transported in shallow crates, in order to better pRéserver the physical qualities of the fruit. The bunches are deposited whole in a pneumatic press.

Produced from a single grape variety, characteristic of the region, Chenin testifies to a remarkable olfactory richness.

The nose develops aromas of yellow fruits such as peach, apricot, mirabelle plum energized by white flowers like honeysuckle, or acacia flower.

The texture on the palate combines power and clarity, richness and precision. Roasted figs, mirabelle plum jam and orange peel take center stage:

This perfect balance between freshness and smoothness lends a lovely length on the palate.

A complex wine that can be cellared for several more years.
