Macallan, an iconic distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland, embodies excellence and tradition in the world of single malt whisky. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, Macallan is a distillery with a rich history whose whiskies are renowned for their exceptional quality.
The history of the Reid family is closely linked to the creation and growth of Macallan. Alexander Reid was the visionary behind the original distillery, which has grown significantly over the years. The Reid family has continued to play a central role in the management of the distillery, perpetuating the heritage and passion that have made Macallan an internationally renowned brand.
Terroir is an essential element in the exceptional quality of its whiskies. Vineyards stretch over acres in the Speyside region, where the rich soils and humid environment are conducive to growing barley, the key ingredient in single malt whisky. The source of the water flowing through the distillery comes from an underground spring called "The Macallan River".
The manufacturing methods are steeped in tradition and meticulousness. The malting, brewing, fermentation and distillation processes are carried out with care to Extraextract the very essence of the barley and the flavors of the terroir. Distillation takes place in traditional copper stills, contributing to the whisky's finesse and complexity.
Macallan's Speyside location is central to its identity. This region is renowned for its high-quality single malt whiskies, thanks in large part to its unique climate and terroir. The combination of pure water, rich soils and a temperate climate has resulted in whiskies that capture the very essence of the region.
For this remarkable, subtly smoky version, Rareblack casks that had contained peated whisky were carefully chosen for initial aging before the whisky was transferred to sherry-seasoned oak casks. Over time, the whisky takes on its full depth and distinctive notes, albeit imprinted with The Macallan signature.
This precious Single Malt is contained in a magnificent decanter handcrafted by designer Fabien Baron in black Lalique crystal, even more complex to work with than clear crystal. Each of its six facets represents the founding pillars of The Macallan in a contemporary style of great elegance.
On the nose, aromas of fresh fruit such as pear, apple or even lemon combined with sweet dates evolve towards a subtle, light peat.
On the palate, gourmand notes appear such as candied orange, honeyed fig and dark chocolate. The peat is warm and reveals spicy ginger.
The finish is deliciously peaty and smoky.
