Cognac Kelt an exception in the world of Cognac.

Until the end of the 19th century, the cognacs which had already aged in Limousin oak barrels in the cellars along the banks of the Charente river before being embarked on the barges then on the boats either from Bordeaux or from departing from La Rochelle were sold in barrels.

The barrels were sealed with wax or with claw plugs driven very deep into the wood in order to guarantee the origin and the volume of the product in the barrel on its arrival at destination, in the port closest to the buyer. .

It was only once they arrived in the warehouses of the buyer who was also the Distributor in foreign markets that the Cognacs were often bottled under the two names of the foreign buyer and the French Cognac Merchant.

It was then that between the years 1900 and 1940 the legislation became stricter, forcing cognac merchants to bottle in the appellation contrôlée area exclusively in order to be entitled to the Cognac appellation. This is how a succession of legal texts was born, the three main ones of which are the compulsory bottling in the area of designation of origin, the definition of the area of designation of origin to be entitled to the Cognac appellation and the definition of the vintages within this delimited region with its vintages including that of Grande Champagne Classified Premier Cru of the Cognac Region.

The tasting by professionals of the rare bottles of Cognac found abroad and dating precisely from before the 1900s reveals that these cognacs which had traveled for long months in barrels around the world not only have remarkable qualities but they are more round and more complex.

Maison Kelt has taken up this aging method by making its Cognacs travel around the world and for the first time in 2006 on a boat called "Gotheborg" which left from Gothenburg in Sweden to Guangzhou and Shanghai in China. This boat is a replica of a boat from the 1740s.

When they arrived in China, the Kelt cognacs, which had already aged for many years in cellars in France, had become much more rounded and complex during the comparative tastings of the cognacs before and after their sea voyage.

Thus are born the Kelt Cognacs.
