Frapin

Installed in southwest France since 1270, the Frapin family has been winemakers, then distillers for over twenty generations, owning a 240-hectare Vineyard in Grande Champagne.

It's Grande Champagne, classified as Premier Cru in the Cognac Region, that will become the chosen land of this family settled at Château de Fontpinot.

In its family tree, the Frapin family includes the famous 16th-century writer Antoine Rabelais. In a nod to history, Maison Frapin's logo features the writer's golden feather.

The wines are distilled with the lees at Frapin. After the traditional double distillation known as "Charentaise", the newly distilled eaux de vie are housed for a quarter in new barrels and for the rest in red or older barrels.

The Frapin house produces a wide range of Cognacs, the oldest of which date back to 1888.

Description Frapin 1995.

The Château Fontpinot is located at Les Gabloteaux in the commune of Juillac-le-Coq, in the first terroir of Cognac, the Grande Champagne. Its limestone soil and maritime climate create an environment conducive to the production of high-quality grapes. This Château Fontpinot from Maison Frapin is a 25-year-old produced exclusively from Ugni Blanc grapes from the 1995 vintage, under memorable weather conditions. The hand-picked grapes were healthy, plentiful and fleshy, producing wines with an ideal liveliness/alcohol balance. Distillation took place with lees (a constant at Frapin), then the eaux de vie were housed in Limousin oak barrels, 25% of which were new, and aged in damp cellars to limit evaporation and temper their ardor in favor of gourmet notes.

La robe of this Cognac is sparkling with orange reflections. The nose first reveals citrus aromas, blood orange zest and sparkling tangerine. This is followed by supple notes of cinnamon, peach leaf and gingerbread, punctuated by vanilla and woodiness. The palate is round and delicate, with flavors of ripe orchard fruit, vanilla again, nutmeg, apricot Sec and honey. The final note is marked by rancio that lingers in surprising freshness.

The combination of this Château Fontpinot 1995 Frapin with a creamy Roquefort cheese, toasted hazelnuts and apricot compote will open the gates to gastronomic Paradise ... but a simple raspberry tart will also provide wonder.
