Created in Cumières in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, Domaine moved to Epernay in 1955 to its current premises at Chemin de la Chaude Ruelle. It is at this same period that, under the action of Bertrand Leclerc, great-grandson of the founder, and his wife Jacqueline Briant, the Domaine becomes Maison de Négoce, and takes the name of Leclerc Briant. In 1980, Pascal Leclerc succeeded his parents and continued their work.
In 2012, the purchase of Leclerc Briant by Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré saved the House from oblivion. This American couple is passionate about the French art of living and fell in love with this non-conformist House. They joined Frédéric Zeimett, a native of Champagne, who has since led the House always to the steps of the Champagne codes, serving the expression of a unique style now internationally recognized.
Cuvée Abyss is one of Champagne's most original cuvées. Immersed for almost a year in the seabed to the east of the Île d'Ouessant, Cuvée Abyss plunges us into a universe where the terrestrial meets the aerial and the marine.
It was after the discovery of a cargo of Champagne that had aged for more than 170 years in the Baltic Sea that Maison Leclerc Briant decided to immerse a specially developed cuvée.in partnership with Amphoris, a company specializing in underwater operations, the house and its cellar master Hervé Jestin have created a bespoke cuvée.
On the nose, the Abyss cuvée, reveals a harmony Rare between a concentrated, solar fruity substance, and a spicy-tinged freshness. It expresses notes reminiscent of warm apple, quince and iodine.
On the palate, the fruity notes accompanied by citrus are enhanced by a minerality and salinity that give it depth.
This unique cuvée will pair simply with a seafood platter or salmon gravlax.
