For 5 centuries now, the Philipponnat family has been making its mark on the land of Champagne. The House Philipponnat was founded in 1522 on the lands of Aÿ, where all generations have succeeded one another. Possessing a unique historical and viticultural heritage, it reigns today over a vineyard of 20 hectares classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Avenay. The House Philipponnat produces exceptional vintages that express the richness of their terroir, shining with elegance and purity.
What is the history of Maison Philipponnat?
April de Philipponnat was a soldier in the army of François I, and was granted lands in Aÿ by the king as a reward for his exploits at the Battle of Marignan in 1515. The Philipponnats will thus devote themselves over the generations to the elaboration of Champagnes wines, and acquire at the beginning of the XXth century cellars dug in the XVIIIth century in Château of Mareuil, a village classified in Premier Cru. These cellars are still today an exceptional heritage.
In 1997, the House Philipponnat will be acquired by the group of Champagnes Lanson-BCC, but retains its family heritage. Charles Philipponnat is now its general manager.
What is the terroir of Maison Philipponnat?
House Philipponnat operates a 20-hectare vineyard classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Avenay. The vines are worked with the greatest respect for the soil and the environment, in particular by the use of draught horses for the ploughing. The House Philipponnat makes a point of honor to pRéserver its terroir. It also has a unique Clos in Champagne: the Clos des Goisses, a hillside of about 5 hectares sloping at 45 degrees, a situation from which it takes its name (goisse in Champagne means very steep hillside). It is a terroir of great richness thanks to its chalky soils, conferring power and freshness to the wines that come from it.

The cuvées stand out among Champagne's most brilliant, each reflecting a part of the House's history-laden soul.
The 2016 Blanc de noirs Millésimé offers sublime aromatic persistence, coming across as fresh, fruity, and gourmet. A perfect Champagne for aperitif as well as white fish and poultry dishes.
The 2015 Cuvée 1522 Millésimé pays homage to the roots of the Philipponnat family, revealing itself to be a concentrated Champagne, very mineral and with a nice finesse.
And how can we not mention the 2012 Clos des Goisses Millésimé, from the eponymous terroir of such great quality. Perfection is found in this Champagne: freshness, greed, length in the mouth and elegance. This is a very great Champagne that will complement the most delicate foods and cheeses.

This Champagne is a blend of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, from a single harvest, a single year and a single grape variety, Chardonnay.
The wines are from the first press and vinification took place in part in wooden casks.
The ageing process, on lees in bottles and in cellar, went on for 5 to 7 years.
The colour is a clear and bright gold.
To the nose, persistent notes of citrus and white flowers.
To the palate: wide and nourished with touches of tangerine, grapefruit, Menton lemon. Lingering finish with a great vinosity.
A Champagne with a great potential of ageing for at least 5 years, in your cool cellar, away from light and laid flat.
To enjoy around 10 to 12°C. Perfect as an aperitif with canapés/shellfish or with an entrée of smoked salmon or Auvergne trout.
