Mailly

The village of Mailly was classified Grand Cru at the beginning of the 20th century. This is where Champagne Mailly is located, in the heart of Montagne de Reims and precisely 14km from the eponymous town.

Founded in 1929 by several winegrowing families, its history is resolutely distinctive, illustrating the ambition and dynamism that has always reigned in the Champagne region. Today, Maison Mailly continues to shine thanks to its splendid cuvées that combine finesse and elegance.

What is the history of Maison de Champagne Mailly?

When the Great Depression hit France in 1929, a total of 25 winegrowing families decided to face up to it by joining forces. They founded the Société de Producteurs de Mailly Champagne and chose to make Champagne wines using only grapes from their village classified as Grand Cru, with the aim of glorifying this terroir already considered exceptional at the time. Brought together by these difficult beginnings, the winemakers succeeded in making their Champagne known throughout France, and from the 1960s onwards, the commercial expansion of Maison Mailly became a great success.

Description Mailly Collection Brut Coffret Bois Héritage 2000 Magnum.

The mild winter of 2000 was followed by a period of thunderstorms and summer temperatures throughout the flowering period. Then, the harvest took place under good conditions. After aging for over 10 years "sur lattes" in the coolness of cellars Mailly Grand Cru, the magnums will be riddled by hand and left to evolve for some time "sur pointe". After tasting, the Cellar Master will decide on the ideal moment for disgorging, the precise date being handwritten on each of the 1798 magnums produced in 2000, the last vintage of the century. Each magnum is presented in a box made of solid oak from the forests of Champagne, the work of an artisan-tonnelier.

This magnificent blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay unfurls a very gourmand aromatic profile on the first nose: pastry notes of macaroon, meringue, mingle with subtle notes of orange blossom. With aeration, this generosity becomes more refined, and Pinot Noir then assumes the leading role with fruity, peppery aromas and notes of fig and raspberry.

The texture on the palate is silky, unctuous, the bubble is subtle and refined. The aromatic profile is resolutely focused on discreet red fruit, with hints of fresh tobacco. Notes of fruit paste and violets settle on the palate, a marvellous marriage of delicacy and freshness. The very discreet dosage (2 to 3 g sugar per liter) helps reveal the fullness of the fruit in a very authentic and harmonious whole. The latest cuvée of the millennium will pair wonderfully with veal sweetbreads with morel mushrooms, or a savory ewe's milk tomme.
