Perrier-Jouet

The House of Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 in Epernay by the union of Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët.

A pioneer in the qualitative evolution of the Champagne wines, the House was the first to indicate the year of the vintage on its labels for greater transparency with customers. This is how the selection of the harvests that will or will not enter the production of Champagnes Perrier-Jouët begins in order to always guarantee exceptional quality.

This Oenotheque of great vintages is kept Secreally in the Cellars of the House and the oldest one dates back to 1825.

The search for excellence quickly led to the renown of Champagnes Perrier-Jouët, which were served on the great tables including the Royal courts of Napoléon III and Queen Victoria.

The elegance of the Cuvées echoed and the House decided to affix art nouveau style anemones to their Prestige Cuvée: Belle Epoque, which was moreover selected by Princess Grace of Monaco for the Rose Ball.

The Vineyard is now composed of 65 hectares spread mostly over 5 Crus: Cramant and Avize (Côte des blancs), Mailly (Montagne de Reims), Aÿ and Dizy.

Description Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque Rosé 1982.

An iconic cuvée from Maison Perrier Jouët, Belle Epoque was created in 1964 and immediately housed in a bottle decorated with the Japanese anemone brew designed in 1902 by Art Nouveau master Emile Gallé.

Belle Epoque Rosé is a blend of 45% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier. The Chardonnay comes from two parcels of Grand Cru from Avize and Cramant reserved for the Belle Epoque cuvée, Bourons Leroy and Bourons du Midi. The Pinot Noir comes from Premier Cru of Mailly, where its finesse is renowned for its perfect match with the Chardonnay of Côte des blancs. The Meunier comes from Premier Cru in Dizy.

Note that the House does not practice pre-blending for the Belle Epoque cuvée. For each vintage, final blending is carried out in a single stroke, and only conclusive results are retained. Another point of clarification: in the 19th century, at a time when the international trend was towards roundness and richness, Perrier Jouët opted for finesse and low dosage.

The Belle Epoque cuvée Rosé, while remaining structured, is focused on elegance and freshness, floral and crystalline at the same time.

Its salmon color with orange reflections is adorned with very fine bubbles. On the nose, peony first invades, followed by delicate notes of white currant and strawberry. The palate is lively and fresh, featuring white-fleshed fruit but also aromas of grapefruit, blood orange and brioche.
The finish is long and expressive, maintaining the aromatic intensity of the Mailly and Dizy wines to the precision and purity of the Cramant and Avize wines.

This Champagne pairs perfectly with grilled prawns and creamy polenta, or roasted tuna steak with cherry tomatoes, or a red fruit coupe and Champagne sorbet.
