Pertois-Moriset

Since its creation in 1951, Champagne Pertois-Moriset has been an independent, family-run producer. Harvesting-Handling, they vinify, champagnize and market only their own grapes.

Located in Mesnil-sur-Oger, a prestigious classified village Grand Cru of the Côte des blancs, this family-run Domaine seeks to exalt without make-up the minerality and typicity of their terroirs.

Their 20.70-hectare vineyard is divided as follows:

- 13.40 hectares in Côte des blancs, where the Chardonnay grape reigns supreme.

- 7.30 hectares in the Coteaux Sézannais, where the grape variety is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay.

This family-run house is a member of the prestigious Club Trésors de Champagne, a club founded in 1971 and made up of just 24 members, whose aim is to bring together artisan Champenois winemakers sensitive to the preservation of their terroir and know-how. This membership contributes to embellishing the flawless reputation of Pertois-Moriset and enhances their quest for excellence and respect for winegrowing tradition and terroir.

Description Pertois-Moriset Les Hauts d'Aillerands 2015.

Today, this property is managed by Cécile Pertois-Moriset and her husband Vincent, the 3rd generation to head this independent family business. The vineyard covers 20 hectares, spread over two terroirs, the Côte des blancs for around 13 ha and the Coteaux Sézannais for around 7 ha.

The cuvée Les Hauts d'Aillerands is a Blanc de blancs, made exclusively from Chardonnay from two parcels, planted in 1997 and 2010 with a total surface area of 1.1 hectares, located in the lieu-dit "Les Hauts d'Aillerands au midi" of the village Le Mesnil on Oger in Grand Cru. It is one of three parcel-based cuvées in the new Pertois-Moriset range.

The year 2015 offered us a hot summer and Sec which caused water stress, but fortunately some welcome rain in August kick-started ripening progress. Heatwave years can make Chardonnay very heterogeneous, ranging from vegetal if harvested too early, to heavy if harvested too late. The strong minerality of the Mesnil terroir on Oger has enabled us to produce a very high-quality harvest.

Vinification is 50% in foudre and 50% in oak barrels, malolactic is blocked to preserve all the freshness and salinity of these terroirs, and aging is on lees for 9 months without stirring. Aged on laths for 5 to 6 years, this is a Brut nature, with no dosage.

This Champagne has a straw-yellow color with green highlights. The nose opens with notes of yellow apple, pear, citrus and lemon. Then come comforting aromas of honey, cookie and brioche, followed by a reminder of the time spent in wood, with hints of walnut and oak leaf. Finally, the soil expresses itself with mineral notes of flint and sea minerals. On the palate, this Champagne has a full, unctuous mousse, is juicy and has a tangy freshness. There's apple and warm brioche well underlined by a long, savory finish.

This Blanc de blancs Les Hauts d'Aillerands 2015 is a perfect companion for soft, mild cheeses, such as a Pélardon or Rocamadour, but it still expresses itself best with oily fish, whether crudo, ceviche or sashimi.
