Leclerc Briant

Created in Cumières in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, Domaine moved to Epernay in 1955 to its current premises on Chemin de la Chaude Ruelle. At the same time, under the leadership of Bertrand Leclerc, great-grandson of the founder, and his wife Jacqueline Briant, Domaine became Maison de Négoce, and took the name Leclerc Briant. In 1980, Pascal Leclerc succeeded his parents and continued their work.

In 2012, the purchase of Leclerc Briant by Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré rescued the Maison from oblivion. This American couple, passionate about French art de vivre, fell in love with this non-conformist Maison. They joined forces with Frédéric Zeimett, a native of Champagne, who has since steered the House ever upwards of the Champagne codes, in the service of expressing a unique style now internationally recognized.

Description Leclerc Briant Blanc de Meuniers 2016.

This cuvée from Maison Leclerc Briant is made exclusively from Meunier de Chamery, Premier Cru from Montagne de Reims. The vines are managed according to Biodynamic principles.

If we had to sum up the 2016 vintage it would be: frost, hail, rain and disease. Without a very fine month of September the harvest would have been catastrophic. It remains a year with very heterogeneous quality; we can say that the Meunier grape did very well, giving wines more on power and richness than finesse. The qualities of the Chamery terroir enabled us to produce a harvest of very good quality.

This cuvée is vinified and aged in oak barrels for 9 months. Once bottled, the wines will spend 5 years on laths in the cellar before disgorgement (February 2022). The dosage is 1.8g/L, it's a Brut Zéro.

This Champagne boasts a pale yellow gold color with a luminous appearance and intense yellow reflections. The nose is elegant, on peony, lime blossom and star anise, fresh and dynamic, with notes of kumquat and blood oranges, and finally infinitely fruity, mirabelle plum, apricot, quince... It finishes on pastry notes of toast, spring honey and pistachio. The palate is pulpy, juicy and sapid. A creamy, chalky base marks the mineral expression, stimulated by a hint of orange acidity that gives it its length.

This Blanc de Meunier 2016 from Maison Leclerc Briant is sure to sublimate a royal sea bream, coconut milk sauce, citrus and saffron. But its exceptional fruity expression will also counterbalance the iodine of a Beluga caviar.
