De Sousa

La Maison De Sousa is located in the commune of Avize in the heart of the prestigious Côte des blancs. It was founded by Antoine De Sousa in the 1950s through marriage to a daughter from a winegrowing family.

Today, Erick De Sousa is one of the region's most talented winemakers, favoring a sustainable approach to his vineyards in order to produce authentic Champagnes of great purity.

What is the history of Maison De Sousa?

In the aftermath of the First World War, Manuel De Sousa, originally from the province of Braga and part of the Portuguese contingent sent to the front, decided to settle in Champagne at Avize with his wife. His son Antoine married Zoémie Bonville, from a long-established family of winegrowers in the region. A success story that has never ceased to endure. Their son Erick took over in 1986, demonstrating exceptional talent in raising the vineyard to a new level of excellence Rare. Today, he is gradually passing on his heritage and passion to his three children: Charlotte, Julie and Valentin, who will continue to write the pages of history.

What is the terroir of Maison De Sousa?

House De Sousa watches over a vineyard of 9.5 hectares of vines classified as Grand Cru in the commune of Avize on the Côte des blancs. Situated between the high-quality terroirs of Cramant to the north and Oger to the south, Avize has a soil and subsoil... See more ...

Description De Sousa Brut Rosé Petite Mousse.

The Domaine De Sousa is located at Avize in the heart of the Côte des blancs and comprises 42 parcels (9.5ha in total) that stretch across the 100% chalky soils of the Avize communes, Oger, Cramant, Le Mesnil sur Oger for Chardonnay, and the villages of Aÿ and Ambonnay for Meunier and Pinot Noir. The vines, ¾ of which are over 45 years old, are managed according to biodynamic principles (Bio certification in 2010 and Demeter in 2013).

This Brut Rosé is a Rosé blend, but with a very special composition with 92% Chardonnay from Grauves (Premier Cru from the Côte des blancs) and 8% Pinot Noir from Aÿ (Grand Cru from the Vallée de la Marne). The former provide freshness, liveliness, energy and finesse, while the Seconds guarantee the fruity, tart notes of red berries (strawberry, raspberry).

Another special feature, Erick De Sousa has chosen to add a less sweet liqueur for the prise de mousse (Seconde fermentation carried out in the bottle); he thus obtains finer bubbles (4kg pressure instead of 6). In the past, these cuvées were known colloquially as "Petite Mousse". This cuvée, a lovely salmon color with orange highlights, is a pure Rosé, tangy with strawberry and raspberry, but also wild apple and rose. The palate is unctuous yet fresh and balanced, with mineral and white flower flavors (chardonnay) combined with the vigor of raspberry (pinot noir). This Brut Rosé "Petite Mousse", dosed at 6g/L, will pair wonderfully as a dessert with strawberry-raspberry soup with fresh thyme ... or simply as an aperitif with savory crackers.
