Lombard

Created in 1925, Maison Lombard is a family-run Domaine located in Epernay. The vineyard has been in organic conversion since 2018.

Thomas Lombard has come up with a series of single-vineyard, plot-based Champagnes, made mainly from Premier and Grand Cru in the Secteur of the Montagne de Reims West.

All cuvées are Brut nature or Extra-Brut, to reveal the identity of each place with authenticity.

Description Lombard Brut Nature 2008.

2008 was a particularly cool vintage, giving the wines sublime tension.

Words from the cellar master: "2008 was a great year for Chardonnays. They are in a large majority in this blend to maintain the freshness typical of this year: we noted high acidities and excellent phenolic ripeness.

The Pinots Noirs of Ambonnay provide the material necessary for this wine to be representative of its Vintage."

To make this cuvée, the Lombard house drew on the finest terroirs of Champagne. The Chardonnays, which account for 80% of the blend, come from Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize (Côte des blancs), while the Pinot Noir comes from Ambonnay (Montagne de Reims). These are classified Grand Cru terroirs where chalk is omnipresent.

This cuvée spent 7 years in the house cellars before being disgorged.

An important aging process that allows it to round out its aromas and develop its complexity. No dosage is used to preserve the wine's natural balance.

On the nose, we immediately recognize the chalky notes characteristic of the terroir on which the vines grew. Added to this are aromas of ripe fruit and floral essences.

The attack is sharp, with good tension, and a lovely acidity complements the saline notes. The finish is vinous and promises a few more years of cellaring for this Champagne.

To fully appreciate it, we recommend a salmon carpaccio with dill or hard cheeses.

It's a great wine to drink now
