Domaine Gros Frère & Sœur

Domaine Gros Frère & Sœur

It's not always easy to follow the successions and partitions of the Domaines of these great Burgundian families over the generations.

This is the case for the Gros family, whose original name was Louis Gros.

This Domaine was split into 3 in the 1960s to give rise to the Domaines Anne Gros, A-F.Gros and Gros Frère et Sœur.

It is indeed the latter that is evoked here. Its history begins with Colette (the sister) and Gustave (the brother), Louis' children, who after inheritance launch their 20ha Domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1963, including 4 parcels in Grand Cru, on Richebourg, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot.

In 1984, their nephew Bernard took over from Gustave and steered the House's style towards more expressive, concentrated wines. In the late 1990s he bought a 12-hectare parcel (3 white, 9 red) in the commune of Concoeur et Corboin in Hautes Côtes de Nuits.

Today his son Vincent has joined him on Domaine.

The finest cuvées are generous and structured, they require time, you have to be patient ... the tasting then offers balanced, harmonious wines with a silky, voluptuous texture, it's a real moment of emotion.

Description Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2020.

The Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, bordered by the villages of Vosne Romanée and Vougeot, is the direct neighbor of the Grands Crus Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Musigny.

It represents 51 ha and includes 80 owners.

The Domaine Gros Frère & Sœur owns a small 75-acre parcel here called Musigni.

Its lean, stony soil brings plenty of tension and breed to the wines.

The long, new-barrel aging chosen by the Domaine slowly polishes the wines and gives them its precise, delicious character.

In this 2020, we find a frank expression of the wines of Côte de Nuits, with its floral notes of violets and spring roses, and black fruits (wild blackberry); when sweet spices (cinnamon), but also pepper and licorice, mark the race and evolution.

The palate is voluptuous, enveloping salivating tannins.

The finish is fresh, elegant, seductive and slightly mentholated.

A very great wine, quite accomplished, which its youth already knows how to accompany a canon of roe deer smoked with vine shoots or braised lamb without forgetting the cheese from the Abbaye de Citeaux.
