Louis Jadot

Louis Henry Jadot founded the famous Maison that bears his name in 1859. Nevertheless, we have to go back to 1826 when the Jadot family from Belgium acquired the Clos des Ursules to find the first roots of this family in Bourgogne.

He was succeeded in 1900 by Jean-Baptiste Jadot, and it was he who invested heavily in the Burgundy vineyards, among which he acquired part of Corton-Charlemagne and Chevalier-Montrachet les Demoiselles, to name but the most renowned.

In 1985, it was decided by Madame Jadot to sell the Maison to the KoBrand Company, their Importer in the USA.

To this day, Maison Jadot is still based at Beaune in Jacques' world-famous Couvent des Jacobins and Château.

The climats, a veritable mosaic, which dot the Burgundy vineyards, and which belong to Maison Jadot, extend over some fifteen hectares. These "home-grown" climats are still cultivated using the "méthode traditionnelle raisonnée": no deep ploughing, but surface work and sometimes a horse for the least accessible vines.

Description Louis Jadot Domaine Gagey Clos-Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2016.

The 2016 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru from Maison Louis Jadot embodies with elegance and depth the essence of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, the smallest communal appellation in the Côte de Nuits. This Grand Cru terroir, nestled between those of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, lends the wines it produces a perfect balance of power and finesse, a reflection of its clay-limestone soil enriched with iron oxide and marl.

On the prestigious "Clos Saint Denis" site - whose history dates back to the founding of the Collegiate Church of Saint Denis de Vergy in 1203 - the Pinot Noirs face east, benefiting from ideal sunshine to reach optimal ripeness and reveal a complex, elegant wine.

The vinification of this Grand Cru follows a meticulous process that respects the fruit. Harvesting, carried out by hand in small crates to pRéserver preserve the integrity of the grapes, is followed by careful sorting and destemming. Maceration then takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks, with twice-daily punching of the cap during fermentation. The wine is aged for around 18 months in barrels sourced from the cooperage of Domaine, around a third of which are new, allowing the aromas and structure of the wine to be refined.

This wine is best enjoyed at a temperature of between 16 and 17°C and has impressive ageing potential, lasting up to 30 years.
