Description Domaine Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018.

A masterful embodiment of Burgundian savoir-faire, the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 du Domaine Dugat-Py is an exceptional wine.

Deeply rooted in clay-limestone soil, the old Pinot Noir vines - 70 years old on average - from which it is made give it remarkable structure and complexity.

Annual production, limited to between 800 and 1100 bottles, testifies to a meticulous approach and attention to detail. Also, since 2003, Domaine has made the switch to organic farming, testifying to its deep respect for the environment and its quest for the most authentic expression of terroir.

Once harvested, Pinot Noirs follow a traditional, whole-harvest vinification, which favors the wine's aromatic richness and tannic structure.

Maturing for 16 to 18 months in new oak barrels brings a subtle touch of perfectly integrated smoky oak that in no way overshadows the purity of the fruit.

On tasting, the 2018 Mazis-Chambertin reveals an intense purple color with purplish highlights. Aromas of candied fruit and ripe plum mingle with a lovely woodiness.

On the palate, the balance is there, carried by a lively acidity and complexity that sign a great wine. The tannins are powerful, the mid-palate juicy and the mineral finish persistent.

A wine for laying down par excellence, this Grand Cru promises a fascinating evolution over several decades. However, it can also be enjoyed in its youth after a few hours of decanting.

To accompany this gem, a civet of hare à la Royale would be an excellent gastronomic choice.
