Armand Heitz

While the family-run Domaine began life in the mid-19th century at Chassagne Montrachet en Bourgogne, it was in 2011, with the arrival of Armand Heitz at its helm, that it began to make a name for itself.

Armand started with one hectare the first year and gradually took over the vineyards from his parents, uncles and aunts. Today, Domaine has around 20 hectares in Meursault, Pommard, Volnay, Chassagne Montrachet, Saint Aubin ... and even in Juliénas (Domaine La Combe Vineuse).
There are two structures, Domaine Heitz-Lochardet for wines from Domaine and Armand Heitz for wines made from the Domaine harvest and grape purchases.

Domaine follows biodynamic principles, but the more it grew, the more difficult it became to maintain its methods. Armand Heitz, convinced of the benefits of sustainable, environmentally-friendly cultivation, then advocated the more virtuous notions of permaculture and agroecology. To take this eco-responsible, regenerative farming approach to its logical conclusion, Domaine has also developed a cow and sheep breeding business.

Armand seeks pure, aromatic and expressive wines, true reflections of their terroirs.

Description Armand Heitz Saint-Aubin Premier Cru "Murgers Des Dents de Chien" 2019.

Saint Aubin is a Côte de Beaune appellation that's becoming increasingly renowned. Famous for its magnificent south-facing cirque, it is planted with 170 ha of vines between 250 and 400 meters altitude, including 125 in Premier Cru. Its nearest neighbors are Montrachet to the east and Chassagne Montrachet to the south.
The Murgers Dents de Chien climat is located at the top of the Montrachet hill, overlooking the grand crus, on soil rich in pebbles (murgers are small dry stone walls removed from the plots) and low in clay. Mineral, pure wines are produced here.

The Saint Aubin Murgers Dents de Chien d'Armand Heitz is a monopoly, as it is the only Domaine in this appellation to grow pinot noir in this climate renowned for its white wines. The grapes are vinified in whole bunches, then the wines are aged for 11 months in partially new oak barrels (around 20% depending on the year) to obtain greater complexity and finesse.
They are juicy, on berries, carried by fine, polished tannins. This fine, elegant 2019 offers notes of peony, blackcurrant and black cherry. The palate is silky and refreshing, with hints of coffee, chocolate and sweet spices. It will pair perfectly with osso bucco or roast quail with grapes.
