Albert Bichot

The roots of this family of Bourgogne go back to the Middle Ages. The House was only founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie, but it was Albert Bichot, the House's current name, that moved it permanently to Beaune in 1912, in the heart of Bourgogne, not far from the prestigious walls of Hospices de Beaune, where the highly renowned Auction Sales take place every year.

The house currently owns the Domaines de Long-Depaquit en Chablis (65 hectares), du Clos-Frantin en Nuits-Saint-Georges (7.3 hectares), as Château-Gris (3.5 hectares), du Pavillon in Pommard and a few others but not classified as Grand or Premier Cru which our house, true to its Charter, has not retained in its list of Bourgogne wines.

After careful vineyard management, shared with our winegrower suppliers, and meticulous harvesting, the wines are aged in barrels for 12 to 18 months. These barrels are of different origin (Tronçais, Allier...), age and toast, and are used according to their specificities to age the wine in an optimal way. It's an art that only the descendants of these old Burgundian families know, and which they pass on to each other as a precious heritage.

Albert Bichot is not only a personal wine heritage, but also a heritage of close relationships with Burgundian winegrower-deliverers. It's also a heritage of know-how handed down over many centuries. It's a diversity that compels admiration.

Description Albert Bichot Chambertin Grand Cru "Domaine du Clos Frantin" 2015.

The story goes that a winegrower named Bertin planted his vineyard with the same grape variety as his illustrious neighbor Clos de Bèze and, to differentiate them, named it "le champ de Bertin", which later became Chambertin and ended up attached to the name of the village of Gevrey to give Gevrey Chambertin.

The Clos Frantin Domaine, property Albert Bichot, holds 17 ares in the Chambertin appellation, the equivalent of 900 bottles at most.

The year 2015 was marked by a hot, even scorching, summer Sec. Fortunately, a few showers at the end of August and mid-September kick-started the ripening process, making 2015 a great vintage.

The wines are a deep, brilliant ruby color. The nose is complex, reminiscent of the very fine ripeness of the berries with its notes of fruit liqueur and peony. The palate is fleshy, full-bodied and built on silky tannins. It develops aromas of prune, blond tobacco, rosemary and green tea.

An elegant, racy wine that will easily accompany a venison stew or the redoubtable époisses.
