The noble lands belonging to Sieur de Lassalle were sold at the very beginning of the 18th century to an English family who added the lands of Ganet, adjoining the Castle. The daughter of the owner at the time married an Irishman from Galway by the name of Kirwan who gave his final name to the Castle.

It is a Third Grand Cru classified according to the prestigious list of 1855.

The vineyard extends over about forty hectares with the following grape varieties:

Cabernet Sauvignon 45%, Merlot noir 30% Cabernet franc 15% and Petit Verdot 10% and whose average age of the vines is around 30 years.

The annual production is of the order of 200 barrels depending on the year, ie around 240 to 250,000 bottles.

All the harvest is manual and the wine is aged entirely in barrels for 18 to 24 months on a variable proportion of 30 to 50% of new barrels.
