It was in 1725 that Jean-François de Pontet, Governor General of the Médoc, gave his name to the land of Canet to make it one of the largest estates in the region.
In 1865, Herman Cruse took possession of the château which soon became the flagship of this great family of merchants whose "reign" over this property lasted more than a century.
Guy Tesseron, a native of Charente and producer of Cognac, bought Pontet Canet in 1975 and anxious to preserve the reputation of the cru, he devoted all his care to it.
