The Château Belgrave is an iconic Domaine vineyard located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards. Famous for its high-quality wines, Château has a rich history and benefits from an exceptional terroir.
The history of Château Belgrave dates back to the 17th century, when the De Bernet family established the estate. However, it was in the 19th century that Château began to forge a remarkable reputation thanks to the efforts of the Dutch-born Van der Niepoort family. The Van der Niepoorts invested heavily in Domaine, modernizing the facilities and improving the quality of the wines.
Over the generations, the Van der Niepoort family has passed on their love of the terroir and commitment to winemaking excellence. Today, Château Belgrave is owned by the Dourthe Group, a renowned wine company that has pRéserver the integrity and quality of Domaine.
The terroir of Château Belgrave is a real asset, contributing to the renown of its wines. The vines cover almost 59 hectares and are planted on gravel soils, typical of the Haut-Médoc region. These gravelly soils accumulate the sun's heat and release it to the vines, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. In addition, the proximity of the Gironde estuary influences the region's microclimate, creating conditions conducive to the cultivation of Bordeaux grape varieties.
The Château Belgrave produces mainly red wines, with a composition dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted to select only the very best. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, offering precise control of fermentation and preserving the freshness and purity of aromas.
The wines of Château Belgrave are distinguished by their elegance, finesse and structure. They offer a complex aromatic palette, ranging from ripe black fruits to spices and delicate woody notes. Thanks to their harmonious balance between power and finesse, they can be enjoyed young, yet have notable aging potential.
The Château Belgrave also attaches great importance to the aging of its wines. The wines are aged in French oak barrels for a period ranging from 12 to 15 months, allowing the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften, creating balanced, harmonious wines.
An intense purple La robe nectar, the wine reveals an intense, complex bouquet of blackcurrants, blackberries and jammy black cherries.
After aeration, it's also possible to perceive a hint of tobacco as well as woody nuances.
On the palate, the attack is full and powerful, followed by a smooth evolution.
The tannins are fine, velvety and there are delicious aromas of very ripe, even caramelized fruit. On the finish, a hint of acidity balances the whole, leaving us with a pleasant sensation on the palate.
