Great name of the Rive droite that we no longer present, the Château Pavie is located on the exposed hillsides to the southeast of the village of Saint-Emilion. It is in the IVth century that appeared the first plantations of vines in the region of Saint-Emilion and more particularly on the slopes of what is today the vineyard of Château Pavie. The Domaine has been owned by Gerard Perse since 1998, who has done everything possible to give it a boost that is, to say the least, Extraordinary, having elevated it to the rank of the most prestigious wines of Bordeaux.
It was in 2012 that the consecration occurred for Château Pavie, when it acceded to the title of First Grand Cru Classé "A" in the Saint-Emilion classification, a position that it retained during the last classification review in September 2022.
The Château Pavie now watches over a 37-hectare vineyard, making it one of the largest properties among the First Classified Growths of Saint-Emilion. The vines are planted on limestone and clay-limestone slopes, with 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 18 to 32 months in French oak barrels, the proportion of which can vary from 70 to sometimes 100% new wood.
The property produces a Second wine, the Arômes de Pavie, which also benefits from 18 to 24 months of aging in barrels, 50% of which is new wood.
The Château Pavie is renowned for the finesse, complexity and inimitable charm of its wines. Rich fruit and noble tannins give them a vibrant energy.
With its splendid, brilliant dark red color, it offers a generous, seductive first nose with scents of cherry, blackberry and plum.
These fruity notes are complemented by nuances of cedar adding an extra dimension to the bouquet.
On the palate, the attack is rich and concentrated. The tannins are powerful but perfectly integrated, offering a solid structure and fine ageing potential.
The very greedy finish leaves pleasant fruit notes on the palate.
