Château Léoville Las Cases

Château Léoville Las Cases

A great name in the Bordeaux vineyard that no longer needs to be introduced, rightly nicknamed the "First of the Seconds crus". Very old property of the Medoc, Domaine was seized during the French Revolution and then divided into three properties of Léoville between 1826 and 1840: Barton and Poyferré and Las Cases, Domaine original of Marquis Pierre-Jean Las Cases.

During the 1855 classification for the Paris World's Fair, Château Léoville Las Cases was crowned Second Grand Cru Classé, and became the property of the Delon family at the end of the century. Jean-Hubert Delon now manages it.

The vineyard of Domaine reaches a size of about sixty hectares, of which 55 are entirely fenced within the famous enclosure of Las Cases, resting on a very qualitative terroir facing the Gironde estuary. The soils are composed of gravel and the subsoils are gravelly-sandy, containing a proportion of clay. The grape varieties are 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, with an average age of the vines of 30 years. The wines are aged for 18 months in 50% new barrels.

The Domaine has been producing a Second wine, the Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases, since 2007.

The wines of Léoville Las Cases have left their mark on the wine world, asserting themselves as complex, refined, and deep, aging with elegance.

Description Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2016.

With its brilliant garnet-red color, this wine has a delicious nose of strawberry, raspberry and a hint of spice with white pepper and clove. The latter add freshness. The palate is greedy and refined. The attack is powerful, then evolves into a full, fleshy body. The tannins are still quite firm but nicely chiselled. They will need several years of cellaring to become more supple. Aromas are of fresh fruit and well-integrated oak. The finish has a powerful aroma that lasts for long Secondes.
