The traces of the fortress of Cantemerle date back to the thirteenth century and it was at the beginning of the eighteenth century that the vineyard really appeared almost in its present form.
It is a fifth Grand Cru Classé according to the prestigious list of 1855, presented to the Emperor Napoléon III.
The vineyard covers about 90 hectares on a soil and subsoil of Garonne gravel and a silico-gravelly context Rare and the average age of the vines is 40 years. Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon: 50%, Merlot noir: 40%, Petit Verdot: 5% and Cabernet Franc: 5%. The yield is 600,000 bottles depending on the Vintage, i.e. a production of 6500 to 6800 bottles per hectare.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the small berries are sorted in the cellar. The vatting lasts about 28 to 30 days and then the wine is aged in new barrels for about half for 16 months before bottling.
With its dazzling deep red color, it seduces on the nose with an expressive, complex bouquet featuring fresh red fruits such as raspberry and redcurrant.
These fruity notes are enhanced by subtle nuances of licorice and sweet spices.
On the palate, the wine offers a straightforward attack that evolves into more roundness thanks to very velvety tannins.
Red fruits express themselves harmoniously with subtle notes of baking. As for the finish, it's fresh, gourmand and persistent.
