Château Nenin

The Château Nénin is among the most appreciated and unavoidable wines of the Pomerol appellation. Its origins date back to the 18th century with the Demay family, then passed into the hands of the Paillet and Despujol families, respectively in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was only in 1997 that it was acquired by the Delon family, owners of Château Léoville Las Cases in the Médoc. Numerous restructuring works have been undertaken, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, in order to restore the property's reputation and to place it among the most distinguished crus of Pomerol. Jean-Hubert Delon is now at the helm.

The Château Nénin watches over a 32-hectare vineyard in a single block except for a single parcel, planted on gravel and clay soils with iron crasses in depth, bringing a singular aromatic profile to the wines. The grape varieties are 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, the percentage of new wood of which varies according to the vintage.

The property produces a Second wine, Fugue de Nénin, with as much care and precision as its older sibling.

The Château Nénin is a very big Domaine of Pomerol. Its wines are racy, powerful and complex, where freshness and purity of fruit are expressed.

Description Château Nenin 2016.

The 2016 vintage is a very good wine year in Bordeaux, having however known sometimes extreme climatic conditions which gave birth to a very good harvest. The weather in June was very favorable for a homogeneous flowering and a good start of vine growth. The dry and sunny summer, the slightly cooler nights of August and finally, the beautiful late season of early September have favored the good maturity of the grapes.

Blend of the 2016 vintage : 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet franc

The robe is a very beautiful dark red color, adorned with elegant garnet tinted reflections.

On the nose, it reveals greedy notes of black fruits, blackberry and crème de cassis, peppery spices, vanilla wood and caramel.

The attack in mouth is silky, the wine evolves on a very nice fleshy and dense matter, carried by tannins of a great elegance. Particularly fruity, with flavors of small red fruits, it shows a very nice freshness until the finish, which is long and airy.

Food and wine pairing:

Chateau Nénin 2016 will pair well with a Chateaubriand with truffle sauce, braised sweetbreads, filet mignon en croûte from Betty Bossi, venison pie or confit boar haunch.

For a match with cheese, choose pressed and uncooked cheeses: cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme de Savoie.

Finish it off with a chocolate dessert, such as a black forest, a dark chocolate mi-cuit or a ganache montée.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

The 2016 Château Nénin would deserve to wait another five to six years, reaching its peak between 2030 and 2033.

However, it can be enjoyed now if it is properly prepared. To do so, take care to open and decant the bottle 3 to 4 hours before tasting, in the serving room at room temperature.
The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
