Château Mouton Rothschild

The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.

The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins for the next 65 years, and it was he who raised Mouton Rothschild to the pinnacle of its glory thanks to his determination and doggedness. A quest for excellence pursued by his daughter, Baroness Philippine.

By an official decree issued in 1973 by Jacques Chirac, Minister of Agriculture at the time, Château Mouton Rothschild would be declared the fifth Ier Grand Cru Classé, alongside Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour and Château Margaux.

Today, Baroness Philippine's three children manage Domaine, always remaining faithful to the work of their grandfather and mother. Domaine remains a place of art and beauty, thanks to its spectacular vat room and its famous Musée du Vin dans l'Art, which brings together the unique exhibition "L'Art et l'étiquette" with works by famous contemporary artists (Francis Bacon, Dali, Braque....the... Description Château Mouton Rothschild 2015 Imperiale 6L.

A very famous year for the Bordeaux vineyards, 2015 was a hot and dry vintage between February and July, i.e. from budburst to veraison of the vines. But August and September had some rains which allowed the vine to revitalize the maturation of the berries. Each parcel was able to be harvested at the time of the harvest at its optimum maturity.

Blend of the 2015 vintage: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc.

The robe is a beautiful dark red color and very intense, with purple reflections slightly tiled.

On the nose, it offers a very intense bouquet with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, incense and mineral notes of slate.

The palate is full-bodied with slender tannins, perfectly balanced acidity, wonderful tension and impressive length. There is a graphite streak that follows it from start to finish, and these characteristics make it one of the finest success stories of the vintage.

Food and wine pairing:

Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2015 in imperial will be perfect with a matured rib of beef cooked over Medoc vine shoots, garlic confit lamb mouse, hind haunch with morel sauce, roast veal stuffed with foie gras or red-legged partridge salmis.

For a pairing with cheese, prefer pressed and uncooked cheeses: cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme de Savoie. It can also be enjoyed with Brie de Meaux, Gouda or Salers.

It will go well with several desserts such as a crunchy entremet with three chocolates, Pierre Hermé's Carrément chocolat or a black forest.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Mouton Rothschild 2015 in imperial is a great wine for aging, able to wait in the cellar for several more decades. Indeed, the very large capacity of the bottle gives the wine a much greater potential for aging.

However, it can be enjoyed now if it is properly prepared. To do so, take care to open the bottle the night before in the serving room at room temperature. Otherwise, make sure to open it 6 to 7 hours before the tasting so that the wine can reveal its full potential.

The bottles should be kept in the cellar, protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
