Château Malescot-Saint-Exupéry

The Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry was already producing wine at the beginning of the 17th century. It was first named Château Malescot when Master Simon Malescot, King's advisor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, acquired it in 1697. Then in 1827, it was the Count of Saint-Exupéry's turn to own it and to add his name to it. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the famous French aviator and writer, would be one of his descendants.

The Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry would be named the Third Grand Cru Classé during the famous classification of 1855, and would pass into the hands of the Zuger Family a century later.

The 28-hectare vineyard is planted on beautiful clay-limestone and gravel soils, and is composed of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. A Second wine is produced, La Dame de Malescot.

Having long since regained its letters of nobility, the Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry offers harmonious, fruity and expressive wines, illustrating the beauty of the Margaux terroir.

Description Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry 2018.

The 2018 vintage is a very nice wine year for the Bordeaux vineyard. The spring was rather constraining for the technical teams of the vineyard, but the summer proved to be magnificently sunny. We will particularly remember the very good conditions from August to October, which allowed us to harvest red grapes particularly rich in sugar and with a high aromatic potential.

Blend of the 2018 vintage: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc.

The robe reveals a beautiful deep red color, adorned with brilliant garnet reflections.

The nose reveals a very expressive bouquet, with notes of wild berries, currant, wilted rose, roasted wood and Sichuan pepper.

Soft at the attack, it evolves on a full and fleshy texture, revealing depth and concentration. It offers luscious blackberry and cassis flavors, wrapped in silky tannins that carry the wine through to a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry 2018 will pair wonderfully with beef tenderloin in brioche, oriental stuffed lamb paupiettes, a Chateaubriand with truffle sauce or a spiced Rossini duck breast.

It will go well with soft and bloomy cheeses: Brie, Brillat-Savarin, Camembert or Coulommiers, but also with other types of cheeses such as Edam or Morbier.

For desserts, enjoy it with a tiramisu, a royal chocolate cake or a crispy chocolate entremet.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry 2018 has a very nice aging potential, being able to wait in the cellar for another ten years to reach its peak between 2033 and 2036.

However, it can very well be enjoyed today. To do so, take care to place the bottle in the serving room at room temperature the night before. Open it and decant it at least 4 to 5 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from the light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
