Château Larcis Ducasse

Le Château Larcis Ducasse embodies the delicacy of Saint-Emilion's finest nectars. In existence since the 17th century, it has belonged to the Gratiot-Attmane family since 1893. They entrusted its management in 2002 to the duo Nicols Thienpont and David Suire, advised by oenologists Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu.

Together, they succeed in extracting the quintessence of a terroir with exceptional potential, by reconciling field study, traditional methods and technical innovation.

The Château Larcis Ducasse was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 2012, during the 6th Saint-Emilion classification.

The Château Larcis Ducasse is planted on 12 hectares of vines on three distinct terroirs: a clay-limestone plateau, colluvial clay-limestone soils on the hillside, and clay-limestone terraces with predominantly south-facing exposure. The grape varieties are 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in 225- to 500-liter French oak barrels, 70% of which are new.

The estate produces a Second wine, Murmure de Larcis Ducasse.

The Château Larcis Ducasse delivers seductive, complex and velvety wines. The quality of its great terroir lends them a singular breed.

Description Château Larcis Ducasse 2017.

The 2017 vintage will have gone through several stages to give birth to great red wines. Despite a difficult start to the year the season unfolded in a remarkable way with dry weather until summer. The beautiful month of August will allow a very good development of the vine, and despite some rain in September, the good maturation of the grapes will be ensured, they will be rich and concentrated at harvest time.

Blend of the 2017 vintage : 92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet franc

The robe has a magnificent purple color, with brilliant garnet reflections.

The nose is deliciously expressive, with aromas of wild berries, menthol, roasted cocoa and truffle-like undergrowth.

This elegance continues in the mouth, where the wine offers a fleshy matter, a very beautiful fruity brightness and finely chiseled tannins. It evolves with a lot of freshness and volume, before blossoming on a long, powerful and particularly aromatic finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Larcis Ducasse 2017 would be a wonderful accompaniment to roast beef with a Périgord cep sauce accompanied by baked apples, veal chop à la Dijonnaise, roast duck, or a confit lamb mouse.

For a pairing with cheeses, choose soft cheeses with a bloomy rind: Brie, Brillat-savarin, Camembert, Chaource or Coulommiers.

For desserts, it will be particularly appreciated with a three chocolate dessert, profiteroles or an Opera cake.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Larcis Ducasse 2017 will reach its qualitative peak between 2027 and 2032, possessing indeed a very good aptitude for cellar aging.

However, it lends itself very well to tasting today. To do this, take to open the bottle at room temperature and decant it 3 to 4 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from the light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
