Château Cheval Blanc

What wine lover hasn't heard of Château Cheval Blanc, one of Bordeaux's most unmissable and legendary wines? It was in 1832 that Domaine was purchased by Jean-Jacques Ducasse, president of the Libourne court, who contributed to its development.

He climbed the prestige ladder and, in 1878, won his first gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle. The excellence of Cheval Blanc wines would continue to be recognized the world over for decades to come.

In 1998, the estate was handed over to Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère, both of whom breathed new life into Domaine, while respecting its history and heritage. Headed today by Pierre Lurton, the quest for perfect quality vintage after vintage remains the estate's credo. This is made possible in particular by the majestic winery inaugurated in 2011, which enables tailor-made vinifications to reveal the potential of each part of this illustrious terroir.

When the first edition of the Saint-Emilion classification was published in 1955, Château Cheval Blanc was immediately promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé "A". It retained this distinction until the 2021 vintage. Description Château Cheval Blanc 2019.

2019 is a very beautiful vintage in Bordeaux, very sunny. The flowering of the vines was homogeneous in mid-June, and the summer that followed was hot and very dry. Fortunately, the month of August was more temperate with a few rains, which allowed the ripening of the grapes to start again and thanks to the beautiful post-season in September and October, they obtained a great oenological quality.

Blend of the 2019 vintage : 58% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, 8% Cabernet-Sauvignon

The dress is an intense purple color almost black, adorned with beautiful purple reflections.

The nose is intensely expressive, delivering a beautiful aromatic burst of raspberry, blackberry, mint and eucalyptus. A hint of exotic spices is perceptible.

The palate is fine and subtle, the wine quickly reveals a lot of density and power. The tannins are chiseled, bringing an airy dimension and reinforcing the fruity sensation which is exquisite. The finish is long, rich and leaves one speechless.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Cheval Blanc 2019 will pair wonderfully with a roast rack of lamb with mustard and honey. Of course, it will be sublimated with a fillet of beef accompanied by a morel sauce, as well as with a pigeon roasted with garlic and a fricassee of mushrooms.

Several cheeses can be served with it, notably Morbier with truffles, Cantal, Brie de Meaux and Melun and Salers.

For dessert, it will be exquisite with a Grand Cru chocolate tart, but also with a chocolate and apricot Sacher torte.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

Cheval Blanc 2019 has an aging potential of more than 20 years thanks to very great Cabernet Franc, with its peak between 2027 and 2045. However, it is a vintage with good drinkability, so it can be enjoyed soon provided it is well prepared for the occasion. If possible, the bottle should be opened the day before and placed in the room. If not, open and decant the bottle 6 to 7 hours before tasting.

To follow its evolution over time, do not hesitate to proceed to successive tastings to measure the evolution of the wine and its qualitative peak.

The bottles should be kept in a dark cellar, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
