Château Branaire-Ducru

The Château Branaire-Ducru is one of the most modern Domaines of Saint-Julien, whose particularly elegant wines invite only pleasure. The first owner was a Bordeaux notary, Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, who in 1680 had fully perceived its potential. The Château as we know it today will be built by his descendants, the Duluc family.

In 1855, the Château Branaire was named to the rank of Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the famous classification formalized for the Paris World's Fair. It will definitively take the name of Branaire (Duluc-Ducru) following its takeover by Gustave Ducru in 1857. It was not until 1988 that it came under the banner of the Maroteaux family, marking the beginning of an era of modernity with the aim of obtaining great wines, irreproachable in terms of expression and complexity. François-Xavier Maroteaux is today the second generation to work in favor of this philosophy.

The Château Branaire-Ducru rests on magnificent deep gravel land on clay, facing the estuary of the Gironde. The 60-hectare vineyard is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc.

The property also produces a Second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru.

The wines of Château Branaire-Ducru are wines of emotion: fleshy, complex, and signalling a true expression of fruit.

Description Château Branaire-Ducru 2019.

The 2019 vintage is a beautiful vintage that has experienced climatic phases of slowing down and accelerating. We will particularly remember a scorching summer with strong heat in June and July compensated by saving rains in August which favored a perfect maturation of the berries. The month of September finally offered a very nice harvest.

Blend of the 2019 vintage : 56% Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot

The robe shows a dense and deep color, almost black purple.

The nose is bursting with freshness and aromatic expression, with notes of red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry, toasted oak and roasted cocoa.

The palate is round, dense and offers a lot of structure with a beautiful finesse. The tannins are elegant and racy, giving the sensation of a balanced power. The flavors of jammy black fruits, blackberry and blackcurrant, and spices are prolonged until the finish, very long, powerful and noble.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Branaire-Ducru 2019 can just as easily accompany a roasted shoulder of lamb with forest apples as a duck with figs and cherries. But it also goes well with a salmis of pigeon, a roasted Bresse chicken or pasta with truffles.

Enjoy it with soft cheese with a bloomy rind such as Brie, Coulommiers, and other types of cheese such as Edam or Gouda.

Ageing potential and tasting:

To be served at room temperature, taking care to put the bottle in the room the day before and to decant it 5 to 6 hours before tasting at least

Ageing potential: The wine will reach its peak between 2029 and 2039. Do not hesitate to carry out successive tastings to measure the wine's evolution and its qualitative peak.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
