Château Duffau-Lagarrosse

The Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is synonymous with the continuity and durability of know-how within the Saint-Emilion vineyards. Its history dates back to 1847, when it was acquired by the Duffau-Lagarrosse family.

Today, JosépHine Duffaut-Lagarrosse is the 8th generation at the helm, associated with the Courtin-Clarins family since 2021, enabling it to maintain its great reputation, reconciling tradition, technical progress and modernity. Nicolas Thienpont and oenologist Stéphane Derenonocourt advise them in this ever more precise approach to quality.

The Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse has been a Premier Grand Cru Classé since the creation of the Saint-Emilion classification in 1955, a position it has always maintained.

The Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse watches over a vineyard of just under 7 hectares of vines, planted on the slopes of the village of Saint-Emilion on clay-limestone soils. This is an ideal geographical location, where wind and sunshine make for an extremely high-quality terroir. The grape varieties are 81% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 55 to 60% of which are new.

The Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse produces a sublime nectar, structured, elegant and with great aromatic finesse.

Description Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2018.

The year 2018 is a great vintage for the Bordeaux vineyard, having produced great red wines despite the difficulties it imposed. Despite the very contrasting climatic conditions, it is a hot and dry summer followed by a beautiful back season until the harvest that will guide the vintage. These conditions will benefit the berries, which will reach a beautiful maturity, being concentrated in tannins and color.

Blend of the 2018 vintage: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet franc.

The robe is an intense deep purple color, tinged with brilliant garnet highlights.

The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of violets, jammy black fruits and cherry, mixed with fine oak and notes of cardamom.

Soft on the attack, it unfolds a fleshy and very silky body, offering freshness and density thanks to an elegant tannic structure. It evolves in depth on a deliciously fruity register, before sliding into a long and finely peppery finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2018 could accompany a beef steak with a truffle sauce and seasonal vegetables, a hare fillet, a rack of lamb confit or even a roast quail with mushrooms.

For a pairing with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, Morbier or Salers.

For dessert, the pairing will be particularly gourmand with a praline dessert, a dark chocolate dome or an Opera cake.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2018 is a great wine with tremendous aging potential, reaching its peak between 2032 and 2036.

However, it lends itself wonderfully to tasting now, by opening the bottle the evening before, having taken care to place it in the serving room at a room temperature of between 15 and 18°C. If not, open and decant ideally 5 to 6 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70 %.
