Château Prieuré-Lichine

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Le Château Prieuré-Lichine is a discreet building in the heart of the Margaux appellation, whose wines reflect the grandeur of the sublime terroir. Domaine was founded in the 12th century by the monks of Vertheuil Abbey, and was then known as Prieuré de Cantenac.

Le Château Prieuré-Lichine became a Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification at the Paris World's Fair.

In 1951, Alexis LicHine, a Russian-American wine merchant nicknamed the "Pope of Wine", acquired it and added his name to it two years later. With patience and persistence, he endowed Domaine with new terroirs and modernized its facilities, taking it to the top. Today it belongs to the Ballande group, boasts a new vat room enabling bespoke vinifications that reveal the Extraordinary potential of its terroir.

The vineyard covers a surface area of 78 hectares, planted with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, destined for the production of the grand vin and Second vin, Confidences de Prieuré-LicHine. The wines are aged for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new.

For the past few years, 2.2 hectares have been dedicated to the production of the Blanc du Château Prieuré-Lichine, planted with 70% Sauvignon blanc and 30% Sémillon.

The Château Prieuré-Lichine offers wines renowned for their precision, gourmandise and finesse.

Description Château Prieuré-Lichine 2015 Magnum.

2015 is undoubtedly a very good vintage for the Bordeaux vineyard. It was a hot and dry year, where the flowering of the vines took place in beautiful conditions in May, followed by a sunny and dry summer. The months of August and September, sprinkled with light rain, allowed the ripening process to start again. The harvest was carried out in a serene manner, with colorful berries, loaded with tannins and aromatic potential.

Blend of the 2015 vintage: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.

The robe is a deep dark red color with brilliant garnet highlights.

The nose opens with an expressive and complex bouquet of wild berries, raspberry and blackberry, enhanced by a hint of floral, peppery spice and toasted vanilla.

Smooth on the attack, it develops a full-bodied, unctuous texture worthy of the finest Margaux. Releasing flavors of red and black fruits, supported by silky tannins, it shows a beautiful freshness and a balanced power, until a complex and elegant finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Prieuré-Lichine 2015 in magnum could be enjoyed with beef tenderloin with morel sauce, roasted wild boar shoulder, stuffed turkey, crispy bacon with black truffle or veal medallions with shallots.

For a pairing with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, morbier, Tomme de Savoie or Salers.

For dessert, enjoy it with a black forest, a coffee tart or a praline dessert.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

Château Prieuré-Lichine 2015 in magnum has great aging potential, being able to wait between 2045 and 2050 to reach its peak. Indeed, the large capacity of the format gives the wine a greater aptitude for aging.

However, it is perfectly suitable for drinking today if properly prepared. To do so, take care to place the bottle the night before in the serving room at room temperature and open it so that the wine can fully express itself. If not, open it and if possible decant it at least 6 to 7 hours before tasting.

The bottles should be kept in the cellar in a dark place, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
