Château Pichon Baron
One of the most beautiful Châteaux of the Médoc, with its slender turrets reflected in a mirror of water, producing a great wine in its image. Such is the Château Pichon Baron on the edge of the Pauillac appellation. It was in 1694 that Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville, first president of the Parliament of Bordeaux, gave his name to this vineyard of great reputation, which he acquired by marriage with the heiress of the De Rauzan family. He took care before his death to separate Domaine into two parts: one would become Château Pichon Baron and go to his two sons, and while the other would become Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse, intended for his three daughters.
The Château Pichon Baron will obtain the rank of Second Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification established for the Paris World's Fair.
Today it stands on a sumptuous terroir of quaternary gravels that face the Gironde estuary. With a surface area of 73 hectares, it is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 80% of which are new.
The Domaine has been producing a Second wine since 1983, the Tourelles de Longueville, and another since 2012, the Griffons de Pichon Baron.
The wines of Château Pichon Baron embody the purest expression of Pauillac, harmoniously combining finesse and elegance, as well as purity and depth.

Description Château Pichon Baron 2018.
A great vintage for the Bordeaux vineyard, 2018 has shown a contrasting and singular climatology, requiring all the vigilance and technical know-how of the teams at Château Pichon Baron. The very nice summer, hot and dry, allowed the vines to express their full potential to offer a future very good harvest. The late season that closed the vintage presented the optimal conditions for the good end of ripening of the grapes, favoring a richness of the skins as well as very beautiful tannins.
Blend of the 2018 vintage: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot.
The robe is a deep purple color, with elegant ruby highlights.
The nose is mesmerizing, so to speak, offering notes of red and black fruits, violets and licorice, highlighted by truffle and Lebanese cedar.
The attack is ample and serene, giving way to a creamy body that evolves on a very beautiful aromatic mid-palate, marked by jammy black fruit and cocoa. Carried by fine and structured tannins, it evolves with freshness and density. The finish is powerful, long and finely peppery, predicting a good ageing for this great vintage of Pichon Baron.
Food and wine pairing:
Château Pichon Baron 2018 will pair perfectly with a herb-crusted rack of lamb, roasted saddle of venison, beef chuck with porcini mustard and smoked tea, or roasted quail with mushrooms.
For a pairing with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, morbier, Tomme de Savoie or Salers.
For dessert, the pairing will be very gourmet with a pear-chocolate dessert, a Grand Cru chocolate tartlet or an Opera cake.
Ageing potential and tasting:
Château Pichon Baron 2018 is a very great Pauillac wine built for aging. It deserves several years in the cellar to refine its potential and will reach its peak between 2035 and 2040.
However, it can be drunk now. To do so, take care to place the bottle the night before in the serving room at a room temperature between 15 and 18°C. Open and decant ideally 5 to 6 hours before tasting.
The bottles should be kept in the cellar, protected from the light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
