Château La Fleur-Pétrus

The Château La Fleur-Pétrus is unquestionably in the pantheon of great Pomerol wines. It's a Domaine that took its name in the 18th century, inspired by the lieux-dits where its parcels are located, Pétrus and La Fleur.

It was the first acquisition in 1950 by Jean-Pierre Moueix, a young Libourne-based wine merchant of Corrézienne origin and owner of Pétrus. Since then, the estate's vintages have steadily risen in quality as well as in reputation among connoisseurs the world over.

The Château La Fleur Pétrus is based on an 18-hectare vineyard planted on deep gravel and clay soils on the Pomerol plateau. The grape varieties are 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

The Château La Fleur Pétrus offers wines with a unique personality, imbued with generosity and elegance like no other. They are complex, beautifully structured and deliciously aromatic.

Description Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2018.

The year 2018 is and will remain a major vintage for the Bordeaux vineyard. Marked by very contrasting climatic conditions, we will especially remember an extraordinary and hot summer, as well as beautiful months of September and October. This late summer will have allowed the berries to ripen well and to be very concentrated in tannins.

The wine from this 2018 harvest is very colorful and particularly expressive.

The color is a nice dark purple almost black, with elegant ruby highlights.

The wine opens up, in the nose, and the first expression is very small black and fresh fruits, black currant cream and caramel, accompanied by cedar of Lebanon and cocoa.

The mouth is soft at first, before revealing all its depth and density. It evolves fat, fruity with raspberry and sweet spice flavors. The chiseled tannins allow it to show a delicate touch until its finish, which is long, tasty and juicy.

Ageing potential: this wine will probably reach its qualitative peak between 2040 and 2045.
Successive tastings should be carried out to measure its evolution and its qualitative peak.

To be served at room temperature, taking care, if possible, to open the bottle the day before.
If necessary, open and decant the bottle at least 5 to 6 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar, protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.

Food pairing : The velvety and silky texture of La Fleur Pétrus 2018 will go very well with a roasted beef with a sauce of ceps from the Périgord Noir, a saddle of lamb with herbs, or pan-fried kidneys with a mustard sauce.

It is also suitable with uncooked pressed cheese, such as Gouda, Cantal or a mimolette matured over several months.
Very tasty, serve it with a chocolate dessert, such as a fondant.
