Dufort-Vivens is the merger of two illustrious families from southwestern France: the Durfort de Duras who settled in the Margaux grand cru in 1450. The château subsequently fell into the hands of the de Vivens family who gave this château its second name in 1824.

In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, who would become the third American President, at the time Ambassador of the United States in Paris but also a broker in French wine including Bordeaux, classified Dufort just after Lafite (spelled at the time La Fite), Margaux , Haut Brion This classification by President Jefferson will consolidate the classification in the prestigious 1855 list of Dufort-Vivens as 2nd Grand Cru Classé.

The area of ​​the vineyard is 32 hectares and the vines are based on gravel soil and subsoil.

Grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot Noir 23%, Cabernet Franc 7%.

All the harvest is manual and the annual production is around 167 barrels depending on the vintage, ie 200,000 bottles.

The wine is aged in barrels, 30 to 50% of which are new barrels for 12 to 18 months depending on the years before bottling.
