Château Lynch-Bages

The Château Lynch-Bages is one of those illustrious properties that have contributed to the reputation of the great wines of Pauillac.

Located on the land of "Batges", a gravelly hillock overlooking the Gironde estuary, its history begins in the 17th century when it was owned by Thomas Lynch, a Bordeaux merchant of Irish origin. It was at that time called the "Lynch cru" and remained in the family until 1824.

In 1855, the Château Lynch-Bages obtained the title of Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the famous classification of Médoc wines for the Paris World Fair.

His modern history has been written by the Cazes family, which still owns it. In 1939, Jean-Charles Cazes, who already owned Château Les Ormes de Pez at Saint-Estèphe, bought Domaine and breathed new life into it by raising its standard. When he died in 1972, his grandson Jean-Michel Cazes took over the reins and gradually, thanks to numerous technical renovations and by surrounding himself with the right people, he was able to produce a wine on a par with the great Pauillac. Since 2006, it is his son Jean-Charles who manages it, always with one objective in mind, that of producing the most precise wines possible, marked with the imprint of the Cazes.

Description Château Lynch-Bages 2012.

The 2012 vintage was mainly characterized by a hot and very dry summer, which followed a cool and very wet spring. From August onwards, the weather conditions stabilized and allowed the grapes to follow a good maturation process. The harvest, carried out in a serene manner, is very selective so that only the most qualitative grapes are kept.

Blend of the 2012 vintage: 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot.

The color is still a dark red, with elegant tiled highlights.

The nose combines power and balance, offering aromas of ripe black fruits, notably blackcurrant, Sichuan pepper and truffle, followed by cardamom and toasted wood.

The attack is frank, and the wine evolves on a finely built tannic structure that gives it power and freshness. Generous flavors of jammy black fruits and sweet spices can be perceived throughout. It stretches out for a long time until a silky, persistent and racy finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Chateau Lynch-Bages 2012 will pair well with a matured rib of beef cooked over Medoc vine shoots, a veal chop with porcini mushroom sauce from the Perigord, duck breast with Pinot Noir sauce, wild boar leg confit or a rack of lamb confit with garlic.

For an agreement with cheeses, taste it on Cantal, Edam, aged mimolette, morbier with truffle or Saint-Nectaire.

For desserts, it will be perfect with a black forest, a grand cru chocolate tart, or a chocolate bavarois.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

Chateau Lynch-Bages 2012 is a Pauillac wine built for aging thanks to the potential of its great terroir. It will be able to wait in the cellar until its peak between 2032 and 2036.

However, it can be enjoyed today. To do so, take care to place the bottle in the serving room at room temperature the night before and open it. Otherwise, open and decant the bottle at least 6 to 7 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar, protected from light, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
