Château Lafon-Rochet

It's impossible to miss the yellow color of Château Lafon-Rochet, which borders the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This vineyard first saw the light of day in the 17th century, and it was Etienne de Lafon, Councillor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, who gave it its name.

He in fact received it by marriage to Antoinette de Guillemotes, then owner of Domaine de Rochet. The Lafon family retained Lafon-Rochet for more than two centuries, even after the French Revolution.

The Château Lafon-Rochet was named Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855 during the famous classification of Bordeaux wines for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

It belonged to the Tesseron family for 60 years, Basile Tersseron being the third and last generation. At the end of 2021, Domaine will pass into the hands of Jacky Lorenzetti, founder of the Foncia group.

The vineyard, located on deep, dry gravel and clay soils, now covers 39 hectares of vines, planted with 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged for 15 months in oak barrels, 45% of which are new.

A Second wine is produced by the estate, Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet.

The wines of Château Lafon-Rochet are a benchmark of the Grands Vins de Saint-Estèphe, silky, ample and elegantly constructed.

Description Château Lafon-Rochet 2015.

Nature was generous in 2015, offering a very beautiful vintage without any doubt. The climatic conditions were ideal throughout the vine cycle. Flowering, veraison and ripening benefited each time from a privileged climate. The harvest at Château Lafon-Rochet was carried out serenely with berries of excellent oenological quality.

Blend of the 2015 vintage: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot.

The robe is an elegant dark red color, adorned with subtle garnet reflections.

The nose develops greedy notes of black fruits, cherry and blackcurrant, gingerbread, vanilla wood and white pepper.

The attack is fleshy and precise, delivering a wine with a beautiful depth, built and balanced thanks to very fine tannins. Fruity and spicy, it is voluptuous in its development until a long and very persistent finish. A Lafon-Rochet of pure pleasure.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Lafon Rochet 2015 will offer a very nice match with a fillet of beef in a pepper crust, a grenadin of veal with morel sauce, boar leg confit, a fillet of marcassin in beet butter with chanterelles or a venison pie.

For a match with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, morbier, Tomme de Savoie or Salers.

For dessert, enjoy it with a pear-caramel dessert, an Opera cake or a famous chocolate mi-cuit.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

Chateau Lafon Rochet 2015 would deserve to wait another 7-8 years in the cellar, to improve and refine its potential.

However, it is deliciously ready to be enjoyed now. To do so, take care to place the bottle the night before in the serving room at room temperature. Open it and decant it ideally 5 to 6 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar, protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
