Château Léoville Poyferré

Château Léoville Poyferré

Synonymous with aromatic finesse and elegance, Château Léoville Poyferré lies to the north of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation. It was created in 1840 following the various divisions of Domaine de Léoville, and became the property of Baron de Poyferré, who added his name to it.

It was crowned Second Grand Cru Classé in the prestigious 1855 classification. The Cuvelier family, wine merchants, acquired it in 1920. For 40 years, Didier Cuvelier has led the restructuring of the vineyard, respecting the environment and the terroir. His cousin Sara Lecompte Cuvelier took over the reins in 2018.

The vineyard covers 58 hectares of vines, planted with 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged entirely in oak barrels, 80% of which are new, over a period of 18 to 20 months.

Le Pavillon de Poyferré, Second wine of Domaine, is made mainly from Merlot.

The Château Léoville Poyferré is a sublime wine, offering plenty of power and body without losing its subtlety.

Description Château Léoville Poyferré 2016.

A Grand Cru Classé from 1855, which, more than ever, deserves this prestigious title by the qualities of its 2016 Vintage

La robe: dark purplish almost jade color.

Olfactory power on black cherries from the Basque country, blackcurrant and blueberry with a hint of woody violet and vanilla with a fine touch of dark chocolate. The palate is tannic to pleasure with an impressive length very balanced and on red fruits.

According to oenophiles and critics, by far the most successful, ever known, of this iconic wine.

Without a doubt, a wine for laying down, bottle laid down in the cellar, protected from light and noise with a hygrometric degree of around 70%, with successive tastings to measure its qualitative evolution and capture its peak.

To be decanted three or four hours before serving to let it express its olfactory powers and exceptional flavors.
