1er Grand Cru Classé en 1855.

- +

2003 is a very early vintage marked above all by an exceptional summer heat.

Such conditions - which have sometimes been described as extreme - have given rise to many questions and sometimes concern, but the greatest terroirs have remarkably managed to do their best by ensuring the grapes have perfectly balanced maturity.

Size : 750ml
Appellation : Margaux
Vintage : 2003
Color : Red
Classification : 1st Classified Growth

Best known with the name of Château de la Mothe Margaux in the 13th century, the estate was then a fortress, destroyed in 1801 by the owner, who built it back like we know it today, with its Ionic arcades, its outstanding stairs, and classical façade.

The vineyard spreads on 82 hectares and lays on a gravelly and clay-limestone soil, and is a Premier Grand Cru classified from the 1855 and 1973 prestigious lists, that only list five like that: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Mouton Rothschild, all three Pauillac, Château Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan and Château Margaux, Margaux.

The vineyard is 35 years old on average and production amounts to 292 barrels per year depending on the vintages, that is to say 350.000 bottles for an average yield per hectare of 3.200 litres.

Grape varieties : Cabernet Sauvignon 75%, Merlot Noir 20%, Cabernet Franc 2% et Petit Verdot 3%.

The whole harvest is done by hand and the wine is matured entirely in new barrels for 18 to 24 months depending on the year, before being bottled.
