It was the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Saint Pierre de Vertheuil in the 15th century who created this priory on some 4 hectares divided between vines and food crops.

Located in Cantenac en cru Margaux, the castle was formerly called Prieuré-Cantenac and it was only in 1953 that the owner added his name to prieuré-cantenac to call it prieuré-lichine.

The vineyard did not flourish until the 18th century and today it extends over 70 hectares.

This château is a fourth Grand Cru classified according to the prestigious 1855 list.

The average age of the vines is around 30 years and the vineyard is based on fine gravel soil and a gravel subsoil. Grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon: 56%, Merlot noir: 34%, and Petit Verdot 10%.

All the harvest is manual and production, depending on the year, revolves around 377 barrels or approximately 450,000 bottles or 6,400 to 6,500 bottles per hectare. The wine is aged for the whole in barrels, 50% of which are new for 18 to 20 months depending on the vintage.
