5th Classified Growth in 1855

Bold and innovative, known to be often the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined the style of Lynch-Bages in the 1930s. The racy and typical character of the wine places it in the line of the great Pauillacs. It combines structure, finesse and elegance. Generous from its youth, it evolves in its maturity towards more flavors and complexity.

Wine Advocate-Parker : The fully mature 2001 exhibits aromas of tapenade, bay leaf, licorice, red and black currants, damp earth and new saddle leather. Medium-bodied and atypically elegant and charming for a Lynch Bages with soft, fully resolved tannin and a moderately long finish, it is much lighter than a great vintage such as 2000.

This wine is from gravelly hillcrests, located right next to Pauillac, and is a fifth Grand Cru classified from the 1855 prestigious list.

The vineyard spreads on about 95 hectares and production amounts to 500 barrels per year depending on the vintages, that is to say 600.000 bottles for an average yield per hectare of 4.700 to 4.800 litres.

Grape varieties : Cabernet Sauvignon 72%, Merlot Noir 20 %, Cabernet Franc 6 % et Petit Verdot 2%

The whole harvest is done by hand and the wine is matured entirely in barrels, of which 75% in new barrels, for 18 to 20 months before being bottled.
