Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

One of Saint-Emilion's most famous Domaines, synonymous with elegance and refinement. The vineyard dates back to the 3rd century, when the Romans planted the first vines in the region. In 1787, a first part of its name was attributed by General Jacques de Carles, "beau séjour" in memory of the pleasure he had taken in residing there.

Bought by Michel Bécot in 1969, he added his name to the estate. In particular, he restored no less than 7 hectares of limestone quarries beneath the vineyard to store old vintages in optimal conditions.

Today, his two sons Gérard and Dominique, accompanied by Julien Barthe, run the estate, having implemented numerous technical innovations in the vineyard and cellar to sublimate the fabulous terroir and, what's more, identity, of Beau-Séjour Bécot.

The Château Beau-Séjour Bécot was named Premier Grand Cru Classé as soon as the Saint-Emilion classification was created in 1955. It has retained this position ever since, thanks to the high reputation of its wines.

The Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is planted on 22 hectares of vines on Saint-Emilion's famous limestone plateau, with some clay in places. The grape varieties are 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 65% of which are new.

Description Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2005.

2005 is remembered as an exceptional vintage in Bordeaux. The whole season was very dry and marked from May onwards by constant sunshine without excessive heat. The The cool nights of August and September allowed a slow maturation of the different grape varieties, and the harvest was of remarkable quality.

The color is an intense tile red with brilliant orange reflections.

The nose reveals an incredible intensity, with aromas of leather, pepper, cocoa and cigar box. What an olfactory harmony.

The attack is frank, the wine rises crescendo in aromatic power and density. Very concentrated, it delivers greedy tertiary flavors of very ripe black fruits, menthol and spices like white pepper. The tannins are still chiseled, and the finish is long, fresh and persistent.

Food and wine pairing :

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2005 will go very well with a tournedos accompanied by a sauce of Bordeaux ceps or better yet, truffles. It will go very well with oven-roasted duck with mashed potatoes and celery or rabbit.

For cheese, enjoy it with a Salers cheese, and for desserts you can serve it with a chocolate pie or chocolate or coffee macaroons.

Ageing potential and tasting:

This wine can be kept for another five years, until 2027, to reveal even more of its splendor. But it is also possible to enjoy it now. To do this, open the bottle the day before at room temperature, or alternatively, open it 5 to 6 hours before tasting. Decanting is possible after 1 hour of opening, so that the wine can fully breathe.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from the light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
