Château Lafite is first and foremost of distant origins and a reputation that also dates back to a very distant past. Château Lafite is located on the most beautiful ridges of Pauillac, a territory which the poet Ausone already spoke about around the year 325 AD in his Epitres to Théon: "Pauliacus, tanti non mihi villa forest" (Epit VIth).

The lords of Lafite had the right to justice throughout the Middle Ages and until the Revolution in this territory. Lafite wine owes its great reputation to its taste of almonds and its scent of violets and this is the main reason why this wine has always enjoyed a great reputation and that it is served at all times on royal tables, for example at Versailles.

It was in 1868 that the Château and its vineyard were bought by James de Rothschild who gave it his name from that date.

It is a Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the prestigious list of 1855.

The vineyard, whose average age is 45 years, is planted on a soil and subsoil of gravel and gravel clay.

The grape variety: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot noir, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

The surface area of the vineyard is 105 hectares for an average production of 556 barrels, ie around 500,000 bottles.

The harvest is entirely manual and the wine is aged in new barrels entirely over a period of 20 months.
