Château Palmer

It's often said that anyone who has tasted Château Palmer at least once will remember it for the rest of their life. Without pretension, this may well be true, as it's such a beautiful name for Margaux. Château began to make a name for itself in 1814 when Colonel Charles Palmer bought it from Marie de Gascq, in which he invested considerable sums.

The Château Palmer was awarded the title of Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition. It wasn't until the following year that the neo-renaissance Château as we know it today was built under the aegis of the Péreire brothers. Today, Domaine is owned equally by the Sichel and Mähler-Besse families, who continue to expand its reputation.

The vineyard covers 55 hectares, planted with 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. The vines have been entirely managed according to Biodynamic principles since 2014. The wines are aged for 20 to 22 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

A Second wine is produced by the estate, Alter Ego de Palmer.

The Château Palmer is renowned for the finesse and elegance of the wines it offers. Wines that are a true invitation to the pleasure of the senses.

Description Château Palmer 2022.

After a wet late autumn, it was a moderately arRosé winter that suffered mild and cold weather in the vineyard.

The vintage was launched on March 22, with even budburst of our Merlot.

From April 2 to 5, spring opened with a series of black frosts earlier than in 2021, which kept a limited impact on vine growth and the rest of the vegetative cycle.

The vintage's sunny trend asserts itself from May onwards, with rapid flowering from the 18th, in a hot and Sec context.

At the end of June, salutary thunderstorms interrupt an initial heat wave, preluding a scorching summer without any significant rain until mid-August.

Mildew pressure is defused, water deficit sets in.

Stunted in their growth, the first ripened berries are visible in early July.

Mid-August rains are beneficial, and ripening ends in still-warm conditions.

The harvest is sounded on September 7 for a month-long cross-country race.

With the weight of a hundred berries reduced by a quarter, the skins conceal an imposing tannic framework.

With phenolic ripeness achieved, fermentation was fluid and balance miraculous.

Proof of the Palmer terroir's legibility, blending flowed seamlessly in two sessions at the end of November.

Born under contrasting auspices, this 2022 vintage carries the promise of powerful, precisely grained wines, where harmony holds its own more than ever.
