Château Le Coteau

Château Le Coteau

Vineyard with a surface area of 12 ha: it is an exceptional terroir, that of the greatest Médoc wines. It is composed of Garonne gravel left by the ancient Garonne River in the quaternary period during the Günz glaciation. These gravels are composed of pebbles, cobbles and gravels originating from the Massif Central and the Pyrenees.

These are very poor and very filtering warm soils that are perfectly suited to the cultivation of the vine and to a great maturity of the grape. This terroir would be nothing without the climatic influence of the nearby river which softens the temperatures.

The grape variety is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.

Cultivation practices: the vines are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment. No herbicides and no inSecticides are used making the vineyard an ecosystem rich in biodiversity. Manual harvesting

Description Château Le Coteau 2022.

Extreme weather conditions can produce great vintages; 2022 is certainly one of them. It is a blazing sun that will have accompanied Château throughout the summer until the harvest, putting nerves to the test.

The decisions to help the vine to withstand this heat wave were easy to make: do nothing, do not touch the ground, do not touch the leaves and clusters, let the plant enter into resistance. And the result goes far beyond, expectations.

Rarenever has a grape been so concentrated, so rich but also, divine surprise, with a beautiful acidity balancing the richness in sugar.

In the cellar, the vinifications were guided by softness and delicacy, infusion rather than Extraction.

Today, the wines tapped are showing bright, incredible richness. And one can't help but think of another fire-and-brimstone vintage, the mythical 1949!
