Château Saint-Pierre

Discreetly nestled in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Saint-Pierre reveals a nectar of unsuspected charm. Archives dating back to 1693 attest to the existence of Domaine, which was then called Serançan. It was bought by the Baron de Saint-Pierre during the reign of Louis XV, and as a result of several successions, it was broken up and dispersed.

Then, in 1982, with passion and tenacity, Henri Martin reconstituted Château as it was known in 1855, the year it was awarded the title of Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc wine classification formalized for the Paris World Fair.

The Château Saint-Pierre occupies a 17-hectare vineyard, planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The soils are gravel of Günzian origin, with sandy-clay subsoils. The wines are aged for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

The Second wine of Domaine is named Esprit de Saint-Pierre.

The Château Saint-Pierre is recognized as a perfect representative of the great wines of Saint-Julien: complex, round and deliciously aromatic.

Description Château Saint-Pierre 2022.

An exceptional 2022 vintage!

A rather mild winter on the whole, with a classic budburst around March 20.

Vine development is quite rapid, and fears of spring frosts will be confirmed.

The first fortnight of April, temperatures drop to -4 degrees Celsius on several occasions on certain terroirs. Some losses were noted on an approximate area of 10 hectares.

Thankfully, the month of May was marked by record sunshine, low rainfall and mild temperatures, resulting in a rapid recovery and growth.

The flowering stage is finally early, on 05/31 for the Merlot, 02/06 for the Cabernet Sauvignon, which already presages a harvest before September 15.

June is characterized by a major heat wave with peak temperatures the week of 13 to 20, nearing 40 degrees.

The vines have adapted to the high temperatures that have lasted since May, and the berry skins are thick and free of scald.

The 2022 vintage is in impeccable health, perfect ripeness, the wines are a very deep crimson color, very aromatic and a full, fleshy structure in the mouth.

Surely a wine for immediate pleasure combining very good cellaring.
