Château Canon

The Château Canon is ineXOably associated with the finesse and elegance of the greatest Saint-Emilion wines. The origin of its name is due to Jacques Kanon, a privateer in the Royal Navy who acquired it in 1760. A visionary, he instinctively understood the potential of this terroir and had vines planted there. In 1996, Château Canon was bought by the Chanel company run by the Wertheimer family.

The Château Canon was consecrated Premier Grand Cru Classé from the first edition of the Saint-Emilion classification in 1955, a position that it has always been able to maintain thanks to the excellence and timeless style of its wines.

The Château Canon is based on a 34-hectare vineyard nestled on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. The grape varieties are 70% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The vines are surrounded by walls that help protect them from spring frosts, and the nature of the soils allows them to retain unfailing freshness and for the grape varieties to reach excellent maturity.

The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% of which are new. The property produces a Second wine, Croix Canon, with the same attentions as the grand vin.

The Château Canon imposes unforgettable, high-class wines that exhibit a sumptuous balance of tannic structure, purity of fruit and generosity.
