Château Pédesclaux

It's impossible to remain indifferent to the modest but oh-so-modern building of Château Pédesclaux or its superb winery, right in the heart of the Pauillac vineyard. Founded in the 19th century by Pierre Pédesclaux, Château was named Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

A 180° turnaround came for the estate in 2009 when it was bought by the Lorenzetti family, who restructured the vineyard and began converting to organic farming some ten years later. Today, some parcels are also farmed biodynamically. Another highlight will be the inauguration of a 100% gravity-fed winery in 2014, designed to produce the most refined wine possible.

The Château Pédesclaux looks after a 50-hectare vineyard located on deep gravel soils with occasional clay and limestone. The grape varieties are 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.

The estate produces a Second wine, Fleur de Pédesclaux.

The wines of Château Pédesclaux are renowned for their beautiful structure, elegant tannic structure and refinement, where the purity of the fruit expresses itself with opulence.

Description Château Pédesclaux 2022.

2022 is a fundamental milestone for Château Pédesclaux, thanks to its official certification in Organic Agriculture.

This is the culmination of the ambitious project led by the Lorenzetti Family since they have borne the destiny of this Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac, with virtuous and committed practices.

Fantastic Cabernets: winter is contrasted, with alternating great cold and mild periods but remains weakly arRosé.

A late frost limited the load of some of the Merlots still planted on the early terroirs of Château.

Implemented over 10 years ago, the strategy of replanting Cabernet-Sauvignon to replace Merlot on these terroirs limited the impact.

Furthermore, the work carried out to obtain strong plant cover, planted on all the plots, protects a major part of the buds.

Then follows a scorching summer, strikingly dry! Yet the vines react perfectly to these extreme conditions.

The rains of June 20 recharge the Réserves of water in our soils.

The effect is multiplied tenfold thanks to the clays intimately mixed with our deep gravel and the organic matter from green manures and compost contributions.

As a result of these climatic conditions, the berries remain very small and highly concentrated. They reach full ripeness in the first half of September.

2022 joins 2020 and 2003 among the earliest years of Bordeaux.
