Château Sociando-Mallet

Château Sociando-Mallet

Since the 17th century, Sociando-Mallet has occupied the Baleyron hillock, one of the finest gravel terroirs in the Médoc.

Located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, north of Pauillac, its vineyard overlooks the Gironde estuary, nestled in the hollow of the curve the river draws there.

The Sociando-Mallet terroir is made up of gravel from the Guntzian era, on a deep clay-limestone subsoil.

It enables the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen in excellent conditions and the Merlot to acquire depth and complexity, while perfectly regulating the vine's water supply.

This terroir is the soul of Sociando wines, which owe their complex structure, freshness and elegance to it.

Vineyard size: 77 hectares in production

Varietal grape varieties: 55% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc.

Description Château Sociando-Mallet 2022.

Vintage 2022 : generally speaking, the winter was, once again, moderately wet and mild.

These conditions meant an early budburst at the end of March in the earliest plots at Sociando-Mallet.

April was wetter than February and March, with temperatures playing yoyo. It was in May that the solar character of the vintage began to show.

The vine's development was very early, the first flower being observed in mid-May.

The first heatwave came in mid-June. These dry and very hot conditions resulted in a stormy episode that dramatically hit the North of the Médoc and Saint-Estèphe on the eveing of 20th June.

Château Sociando-Mallet, spared by the frost thanks to the proximity of the rive.
